Toronto Mayor John Tory wants to cut the Toronto Public library budget by 2.6% for 2017.  This means cutting back on the hours that libraries are open, and reducing the number of books the library can buy.

Is Mayor Tory indirectly trying to stop people from thinking?  Governments don’t like people to think.  Governments like people who don’t question and do what they’re told.

When I was child, the library used to charge fifty cents a year for membership.  I’m not sure what the adult fee was, but it was not expensive.  Over the years they stopped charging fees, for library membership, and made library cards free.

To generate more money for the library, why not bring back a membership fee of two or three dollars per year.  This is a bargain for what the library offers.

As for cutting back on library hours and the money spent on books?  Don’t you dare, Mayor Tory, don’t you dare!
