Dedications.  What do they mean?  What does it mean when creators dedicate their creations to someone?  One of the dictionary meanings for dedication is, a message at the beginning of a book, song, etc., saying that it was written or is being performed in order to honor or express affection for someone.   Okay, but does not subject count?

No matter what the subject, authors dedicate their books to someone, family, friends, etc.  Does not the book’s subject mean anything?  Do people really want a book about a serial killer dedicated to them?  How about self-help books?  Who would want How To Deal With DepressionThe Power of Negative Thinking, or Dealing With Difficult People dedicated to him or her?  Can you hear someone saying, “Oh I am so honored that he dedicated his book about war to me!”

Disc jockeys dedicated songs all the time.  How can anyone dedicate a song he or she did not write?

Performers dedicate their performances to people, and artists dedicate their art to people.  Again, does not what the performance and art are about matter to the dedicatee?   Would you be impressed if a porn star dedicated his or her performance to you?  How about an artist dedicating to you his picture about intense emotional turmoil?

If you want to to honor or express affection to someone, then save the dedications for positive creations.

Now having said this, I would like to dedicate this blog to no people in particular.  They know who they are.
