SUMMER TIME

“How did that happen?   How did I get lost?  Why did they kick me out at 2:00 a.m.?   I was doing so well —at  least I thought so.  I worked hard and did my job conscientiously.   I never heard any complaints.  Suddenly they throw me into limbo?

“Just what is this place, this limbo?  Perhaps limbo is the wrong word.  I don’t know what to call this place.  It seems like everywhere and nowhere.  It’s not near Hell.  Time does not matter here.  How long will I be here before someone tells me what is going on?

“Perhaps this place isn’t that bad.  It was the shock of suddenly been thrown here at 2:00 a.m. that upset me.  I just wish someone would—”

“Tell you what is going on?”

“Yes, how did you know?”

“You wouldn’t understand if I told you.  Are you comfortable?”

“Yes.  I’m getting over the shock of being thrown here, but it’s not a bad place.   I love the soothing sounds and fancy colors.”

“Good.”

“Who are you, and why can’t I see you?”

“You wouldn’t understand if I told you that either, Hour.”

“How did you know my name was Hour?  Never mind, I wouldn’t understand would I?”

“You’re catching on.”

“Why am I here?  Was I doing a poor job?”

“No, Hour, your work is fine.  Have you heard of Summer Time?”

“No.  What does it have to do with me?”

Summer Time is also called Daylight Saving Time (DST).  I put you here because some earthlings use DST.  When DST ends, you will have your job back until the next time some earthlings use DST.”

“So I just hang out here until DST ends?”

“Yes.  It’s a vacation for you.  Enjoy!”

“I will.  Thanks.”
